Barbra Streisand Shaded Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper's "A Star Is Born"

Before "Shallow" and Lady Gaga's now-infamous viral "100 people in a room" quote, Barbra Streisand starred in the 1976 version of A Star Is Born as Esther Hoffman. In the past, Streisand had nothing but praise for the Oscar-winning project from Gaga and Bradley Cooper, but during an interview with Australia's The Project, she seemed to throw a little shade onto the 2018 flick, calling out its unoriginality — though fans will remember that Streisand's version was actually a remake of a 1954 film that starred Judy Garland and James Mason.

"At first, when I heard it was going to be done again, it was supposed to be Will Smith and Beyoncé. I thought, that's interesting. Really make it different again, different kind of music, integrated actors, I thought that was a great idea," Streisand said. "So, I was surprised when I saw how alike it was to the version that I did in 1976."

And while she did manage to promote her new album, Release Me 2, Streisand also noted that there was just something about the 2018 movie that felt off to her, mentioning that, at least for her, originality is more important than success.

"I thought it was the wrong idea, but, look, it was a big success, so I can't argue with success, but I don't care so much about success as I do originality," she finished.

The Huffington Post notes that Jennifer Lopez, Tom Cruise, Alicia Keys, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Rihanna were all connected to the movie in some way or form before it ended up being the flick that we all know and love.

"I thought when it was going to be done [with Beyoncé] it was going to be very different and have a multiracial cast, and the music was going to be rap. But it's more like the movie I made," Streisand told Variety in 2018.

And Entertainment Weekly reported that Streisand actually visited the set of the film with her co-star, Kris Kristofferson. Cooper told EW that they duo "gave us a blessing" and Gaga added that she was "so, so kind."
